Family Empowerment Project

The Family Empowerment Project (FEP) began in 2019 to give specific training to women and children. In rural communities of Cambodia, poor families lack basic knowledge such as: health care, lifestyle, migration, child marriage, and other key issues. In particular, women and girls need a lot of education and knowledge to help them confidently lead their families and communities. FEP empowers women and girls with knowledge and skills to improve their lives and family relationships.

Under the Mango Trees

We began with 1 women's groups under a mango tree, and today we have a total of 9 groups, consisting of 232 women, meeting across several villages. These women commit to meeting together monthly for a year to learn and grow together.

Educate & Empower

We have developed a 12-month curriculum focused on important issues like human trafficking prevention, domestic violence awareness, and pregnancy and reproductive health education. Additionally, we provide re-usable period kits to women to support their hygiene needs. Our Women’s groups empower these women to become advocates of change within their villages.

Introducing Elevate

"Elevate” is our new initiative focusing on teenage boys and girls. We train them on puberty, being safe online and sexual health. Many girls miss school each month because of their periods, so to address this we provide kits to these girls. To date AOC has provided over 1500 kits to women and girls. Elevate aims to encourage, empower and lift up young people through training and resources.

Human Trafficking Prevention

Human trafficking prevention is integrated through all our projects with the aim to bring education to those most vulnerable, in coalition with Chab Dai.

Through these trainings, we teach communities what they should look for, key signs of trafficking and what they can do to prevent it.

We believe that education is key to preventing human trafficking, this is why it has become an important part of each project.

Sovan Tola, 14

"The cotton disposables I used were tight, hot, and irritated my genitals. Joining AOC's lessons, I learned a lot about health, hygiene, and the rights of people. I am very satisfied with the sanitary pads provided because it helped reduce expenses and it is beautiful"

Samol, 39

"Thank you AOC, especially FEP, for bringing the womans group to my village. Good lessons such as hygiene, financial management, have taught me to be alert and pay attention to health and hygiene issues. Money management has helped me learn how to manage expenses in balance with income."

Kin Sovannara, 15

"In the past I thought that human trafficking only happened to girls, but after listening to the program that day, I learned boys are also trafficked, so I need to be careful. I would like more male students to learn about rights, respect for women and learn about human trafficking."
