GMS - 'Greater Mekong Subregion'
In 2008 Mr Thong Romanea (AOC Director) was asked to explore areas for future expansion. The Cambodian National Development Plan, 'greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Strategic Plan indicates that Cambodia is central to the development within this region.
Asian Development Bank (ADB) reports, predict that economic corridors in the GMS are about to shift and will run through Northern and Southern areas of Cambodia. Massive infrastructure developement is well underway, major highways in Cambodia connecting Vietnam, Laos and Thailand is due for completion by 2012. Just 50 Kms from Laos the provinical district of Stung Treng lies along (in the centre of) the defined northern economic corridor and it is to this area that AOC is directing its attention.
Our focus at present is to build relationships with government and other agencies within this area, to research community needs and how we can best partner with them to build stronger families and communities.
